Slow news day

By Pete North - October 15, 2021

There are more than a million illegal immigrants in the UK. There are said to be 40,000 on the terror watchlist. Meanwhile, we watch tens of thousands of new arrivals rock up at Dover while our political class does nothing at all. Immigration lawyers get rich, as does Serco for providing the facilities, and we deport only a handful. Failed asylum seekers are allowed to remain. Visa overstayers go undetected.

As to knife crime lately, a murder is almost a daily event, and though last year when a Soweto style machete gang attack happened in broad daylight in Hyde Park it was shocking, it has since become part of the new normal.

We need a complete revamp of immigration law but that’s not going to happen. Priti Patel has a bill in the works but it’s going to be watered down and won’t be happening this year. We need a major overhaul of the police but that won’t happen either. More black teenagers will bleed to death in the gutters while the plod wave rainbow flags and parade their transvestite officers for the cameras.

We’ve had it rammed down our throats since the murder of George Floyd that “black lives matter” but we can see that, in practice, they don’t. It should the the number one priority for the police and the politicians. Making our streets safe should be an absolute priority. But it isn’t. The Labour Party is more concerned that men who say they are women should be allowed into women’s changing rooms. The Tories are safe enough doing nothing because merely not being Labour is still an election winner if the latest round of polls is anything to go by. Meanwhile there is a low level rape epidemic by men of Pakistani origin.

All of these issues are not unrelated. Even if we are to maintain the disastrous policy of multiculturalism, any functioning society still needs proper enforcement of immigration law, a police capable of keeping order, and courts capable of adequately punishing serious crime.

We have neither. We’re going to keep letting anyone in from anywhere and simply absorb the consequences. After all, it’s only the plebs who have to contend with it. Or at least that was the case until earlier today. Serial expenses claimant and Tory MP, David Amess, was brutally stabbed to death by a “British man of Somalian origin”. Or in the words of the Mayor of London, “Sir David has passed away.”

This is, apparently, a terrible shock and a sad loss. The former it isn’t (it was going to happen eventually) and the latter is debatable. No more than the other daily knife slaying, usually of the criminal underclass. The only real difference here is that the thief is white and a politician. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be news at all and the only way you’d know about it was if you follow crimewatch style Twitter accounts. The Guardian reports it as “David Amess killing shocks and upsets Leigh-on-Sea residents”. It clearly didn’t shock or upset anybody at the Graun.

Were it that this was a murder they could peg on the far right we wouldn’t hear the last of it and we’d see no end of memorialising and policy activity, up to and including further censorship of public debate. But it isn’t. It’s a terrorist attack linked with Islam, symptomatic of several policy and governance failures with some rather obvious conclusions we’re going to avoid talking about. This will be brushed under the carpet long before December. Just another “incident” to add to the tally. Since it will have no real impact on anything that matters, we may as well call this a slow news day.
